7 WAYS TO WORK LUMINOUS PASTELS INTO YOUR BEAUTY LOOK THIS SPRING

For those looking for an easier way to get into the Sea Punk/Soft Grunge Pastel trend, this spring's beauty launches are full of iridescent colored cosmetics, mermaid-inspired nails and soft pastel hair dyes.

Iridescent pastels were all over the spring 2014 runways, and now there's a slew of newly launched products -- shimmery cosmetics, mermaid-inspired nails and soft pastel hair dyes -- to help achieve the look this spring.

Some beauty looks can have wonderful editorial appeal, but are difficult to translate to real, everyday life (unless, perhaps, you're a devil-may-care teenager). Run a search for "sea punk pastels" on Pinterest or Google images, and you'll see what I mean: a parade of vivid blues, pinks, violets, greens, multi-colored bright hair and ombre outfits that make the women beneath all that color look like walking mermaids on Prozac.

However, it's the subtler looks -- the soft pink hair, the shimmering eyeshadow and glowing, ethereal skin -- that we can translate more easily (and with more flattering results) to everyday life. Most of the new hair chalks and dyes are non-permanent, for example, so if you fancied adding a little to pink to your blonde. Even more flattering are the blushes. And, as ever, the easiest way to try a trend is through your nails -- most of us can get away with a bit of glitter in the office.

Here are some product recommendations if you want to work some luminous pastels into your spring beauty routine without going overboard. (PICS)

Sephora Collection Pastel Hair Chalk Hair chalks and dyes are hardly new, but the three pastel shades from The Sephora Collection - pink, lilac and turquoise -- are the perfect colors to achieve the My Little Pony-esque hair. Sephora Collection Pastel Hair Chalk, $12, available at Sephora.
